Broken Verses by Kamila Shamsie

I had never heard of this book or the author before.I actually went to the library looking to borrow The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.I chanced upon Broken Verses, saw that it was written by a Pakistani lady and was immeidately attracted.I have realised of late that I enjoy reading Indian writing in English and wanted to see if I would like this too.
And boy did I like it!!I think this book is very well written. It is not run-of-the-mill and mediocre fiction but rather intelligent, touching, thoughtful all written in expressive prose.Added to this,it is fast paced and I really couldn't stop reading it.The story is about a young woman whose mother was an activisit fighting for women's rights in Pakistan. Her mother disappears one day and the daughter has never been able to accept that her mother is most likely dead. There are whole lot of other characters and complications like the mother's lover, the father, step mother and step sister, the famous actress friend of the mother and her son.
I do not intend writing a formal review here.Just wanted to say that this is an awesome book and I am looking forward to reading the other books by Shamsie.I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and sure looks like award-winning material to me!
So long for now!
